Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about playing Wordle on JoyWordle.

Is JoyWordle free to play?

Yes. Every game and mode on JoyWordle is completely free, with no account required. Just open the page and start guessing.

Do I need to create an account?

No. Your statistics, streaks and settings are stored locally in your browser, so there is nothing to sign up for and nothing to log in to.

What is the difference between Daily and Unlimited?

The Daily Wordle is one shared puzzle that changes every day — everyone gets the same word. Unlimited mode gives you a new random word every round so you can keep playing without waiting.

Can I change the word length?

Yes. On the classic game and unlimited mode you can pick any length from 4 to 11 letters using the selector above the board. Wordle for Kids offers 3 to 5 letters.

What are Dordle, Quordle, Octordle and Sedecordle?

They are multi-board versions of Wordle. Dordle has two boards, Quordle four, Octordle eight and Sedecordle sixteen. Each guess you type is played on every board at once, and you get extra tries to solve them all. Each mode has a shared daily puzzle plus an unlimited practice mode you can switch to with the toggle above the board.

How does hard mode work?

In hard mode, any hint you have revealed must be used in your following guesses: green letters must stay in place and yellow letters must be included. Enable it in Settings before you start a round.

Can I get a hint?

Yes. On single-board games, tap the light-bulb button to reveal one correct letter in its position. You get a free hint each puzzle, and you can watch a short optional video to earn another. Hints are capped so the puzzle is never fully given away.

How does the leaderboard work?

Each day you solve the daily 5-letter Wordle you earn points — the fewer guesses, the more points (six for a one-guess win, down to one). The leaderboard ranks the top 100 players by total points, with your best streak breaking ties. Pick a display name to join; only the shared daily puzzle counts, so everyone competes fairly on the same word.

Is there a dark mode?

Yes. Open Settings (the gear icon) to switch between light and dark themes, and to turn on high-contrast, colour-blind friendly tiles.

How do I share my result?

When you finish a game, press Share in the results screen. It copies a spoiler-free grid of coloured squares you can paste anywhere.

Does it work on my phone?

Absolutely. JoyWordle is designed mobile-first and works in any modern browser on phones, tablets and computers. You can even add it to your home screen.

Is this the official New York Times Wordle?

No. JoyWordle is an independent, free collection of Wordle-style word games and is not affiliated with The New York Times.
