How unlimited mode differs from the daily puzzle

The Daily Wordle is one shared five-letter word that everyone solves on the same day — that is what makes comparing results fun. Unlimited mode drops the sharing and keeps the game: every round draws a new answer from the same curated dictionary, so you can play ten puzzles back to back. Your daily streak is never touched by unlimited rounds, so you can practise here with nothing at stake.

Choose your word length: 4 to 11 letters

Use the selector above the board to change the answer length whenever you like. Each length plays quite differently:

• 4 letters — fast rounds. Fewer positions to pin down, though the smaller pool means unusual words turn up more often.
• 5 letters — the classic. The best balance of clues and difficulty, and the length to drill if you care about the daily.
• 6–7 letters — noticeably harder. You will meet endings like -ING, -TION and -MENT far more often, so learning common suffixes pays off.
• 8–11 letters — a proper workout. Longer answers actually hand you more coloured tiles per guess, so a strong opener can crack them faster than you would expect.

Try hard mode

In hard mode every clue you have uncovered must be reused: green letters stay locked in place and yellow letters must appear somewhere in your next guess. That removes the option of a throwaway "probe" word and forces sharper deductions. Switch it on in Settings before you start a round.

Use unlimited as practice for the daily

Unlimited is the quickest way to improve, because you get the feedback loop without waiting 24 hours for it. Worth drilling:

• Test one opener repeatedly and watch how often it leaves you a manageable shortlist — our best starting words guide explains what makes an opener strong.
• Practise the awkward shapes: double letters, answers with a single vowel, and words ending in -ER or -LY.
• Play a few rounds in hard mode; it teaches you to squeeze more out of every guess.
